Split Apple Rock Home
PROJECT: RESIDENTIAL
YEAR: 2023
BUILDER: CHRIS BUTLER
PHOTOGRAPHER: ANDRE ISMAEL
The site has spectacular views to the east and north east, of Tasman Bay and the Abel Tasman National Park, and is surrounded by bush clad hills.
The house was positioned as close as possible to the edge of the steep hillside to maximise the views, with a large deck built over the drop.
The owners wanted a small, simple, relaxed home where they felt that they were always on holiday. The home was designed for lots of light with large areas of glazing and numerous skylights. Decks were installed around the home so that there was always easy access to a sheltered, sunny spot to relax outdoors. Through the kitchen window from the western deck, the view of the sea can be seen through the uncluttered central open plan space. This central open plan space creates a simple divide between the two bedroom wings, providing privacy and a quiet place.
